An Introduction to the Psychoanalysis and the “Talking Cure”

This class provides an important and entertaining overview of the founding principles of “The Talking Cure,” developed first by Sigmund Freud in collaboration with Josef Breuer in the 1880s. Psychoanalysis principles at inception started with curiosity of human behaviors and the inner life of some of Sigmund Freud’s patients. You will be introduced to Anna O and the first outline of how hysterical symptoms were representations of traumatic life experiences, memories, and the healing process involved with free association as a treatment technique. In his first published work on the subject, titled “Studies on Hysteria,”. From free association to dream work, Freud began to explore the impact of dreams, and models of psychological structure began to form, with a theory of unconscious, subconscious, and conscious life. “The Talking Cure” gave rise to many different theories on the internal lives of the individual human as well as the collective, all of humanity.
